Saturday Hike

Our Assumption Day hike was rained out, and is now scheduled for Saturday, August 22!

This Assumption Day, Saturday, August 22 join us for a hike on Black Balsam Knob & Tennent Mtn Hike. Hiking on a mountain peak gives us a mini pilgrimage and a fore-taste of our ultimate destiny to the heavenly Jerusalem, the holy city where our Lord and Lady await us, body and soul. Meet up at the trail head for Morning Prayer (pamphlets will be provided) at 9 am. Pack a lunch and some sunscreen. The hike will commence after Morning Prayer!

This hike is for families, single folk and anyone who is able to handle a 5 mile moderate hike at 6,000 ft elevation. The hike is not recommended for smaller children, unless you have a carrier. The hike boasts of wide open views and forest is minimal, so bring so some sunscreen. Following the hike you might consider...

...joining us at Sideways Farm and Brewery (62 Eade Rd. (off Old 64) Etowah, NC 28729). They have outdoor seating and room to spread out, but we recommend bringing a camping chair in case the seating is taken up.

From the Blue Ridge Parkway, look for the "Black Balsam" sign near milepost 420, just south of Graveyard Fields and north of Devil's Courthouse. It's about 26 miles from the NC 191 Parkway entrance in Asheville (NC Arboretum). It's a super-scenic drive with plenty of overlooks along the way, so allow about an hour to drive. For the 5-mile loop, drive about 7/10 of a mile down the road and look for the trail on the right. Continue another half mile for restrooms and other trails.
